Oh my...

I never really wrapped my head around how many things go into starting your own business. It's a bit overwhelming at times. But, all that overwhelming can't come close to comparison with my excitement about the whole thing. I've always wanted to do it, but the technology hadn't caught up with what I wanted to achieve.

I've always been a crafty sort of person. It started with drawing, then went to cross stitching. I'm surprised that in the 7th grade I had the attention span to cross stitch. I remember that year so well. I spent the first semester of school working all the time on Christmas presents. I was so full of pride when they opened them, my first time doing a real craft. My uncle still has his hanging up, 13 years later!

Then, my Mom taught me to crochet. I couldn't have been happier! I remember counting down the days until my 12th birthday. She had always said that she would teach me to crochet when I was 12. I worked so hard to get it right. It was difficult for me to pick up, as us lefties always make things more difficult! But, after tons of practice, something finally clicked. I remember being a mass producer of pot holders. I was so proud when I was done! As a matter of fact, I think my Mimi still has them in her pot holder drawer.

My sewing exposure came from my Nanny. Oh, how I love my Nanny. She has been and still is such a joy in my life. She is what Paw-Paw always termed my "pseudo grandmother". I still miss him so much... She opened my eyes to the Lord and opened my heart to the joy of sewing and quilting. I went to church with her every Sunday. I always looked forward to going back to her house afterwards. We always had some project we were working on. Whether it was culottes for church camp or a quilt of the month block, it didn't matter to me. I so enjoyed our time together. It really sucks growing up, as you tend to lose those things in the shuffle.

So, after connecting with a friend through one of my favorite forums, Weimaraner Addict, I was opened to the world of Etsy. You can visit her store here. What a wonderful gift to craft addicts! I was so excited when I saw it. I stewed on it for a couple of weeks, but it was always lingering in the back of my mind. Finally, I decided to go for it... you can't tell if it will work if you never try, right?

Now, I may be a creative person, but don't ever ask me what to name your business! I couldn't think of anything. I over-analyze things way too much. It's the type A, perfectionist side of me I guess. So, I couldn't really leap off into it right away. But, I did jump head-first into making things. I finally had an outlet for it! As I was sitting on the couch, practicing crocheting baby booties, my husband asks "So, you're just going to start your own business a thread at a time?" Voila! There's the name! He's always so good with things like that.

I started snooping around for things to start on. While raiding the remnant bin at my local craft addict haven, I just happened to see a sale sign on the pattern cabinets. Do my eyes deceive me?! All patterns on sale for $1.99. How convenient, now I don't have to bid on them  all through Ebay, which was my original plan. I walked out of there with $211.35 worth of patterns... I only paid $25.87 for them! That's a good start to a successful business if you ask me.

So, here's the beginning. I'm hoping it works out.... but even if it doesn't, I'll be doing what I love to do. Ugh, I hate that saying!
